This has been always the case, good jobs are not posted anywhere, they fly at the speed of a beer... ... in any case, you can turn to former work colleagues, class mates and friends, the friend of a friend may be good, but it's better if they know you personally; however, if you have to ask, then i'm afraid there is something else wrong.

Soundwave is supposed to announce sidewaves today. I have a week on the mainland between shows ( going to two ) and I hope to do a show every night, there's more good bands than could fit in a week, so hopefully it works out. Hoping to get my daughter to BVB, 5FDP or Rob Zombie. Hoping to see Asking Alexandria, Trivium, Alter Bridge and A7X for myself.

Would love to see Alter Bridge! Other than Rob Zombie haven't heard of any of the others...way behind the times I guess?

The new AB is SO good. The new A7X is the best metal album of the past 15 years for sure. Yeah, some of those bands are reasonably recent, although not much more so than AB ( but all are definitely heavier than AB ). Except Volbeat, did I mention them ? You MUST hear Volbeat.

I'll check em out thanks! I'm finding as I get older my head can't handle the heavy stuff as well as I used to.
Getting old ain't for sissies!

There's two factors here, the new heavy is also heavier than the old heavy.
But, Volbeat is a mix of metal and rockabilly. It's not super heavy, but it's really unique and fun.

thanks for the suggestion; been looking for new bands recently...
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

My employer has asked me to provide referee details to a potential client of theirs, who have requested referees for all staff involved in the (potential) project.
I'm not comfortable doing this - for a variety of reasons.
What's your take? Should I just sit down and shut up?

I would not be comfortable with that at all. You have no idea or control over how that information may be used and why on earth would they want them in the first place? This sounds wrong to me.

Seems a bit odd - surely your current boss is your best referee. I DID have to recently sit an interview with a client, to make sure they approved of me being tasked with working on their project this year. That was a first, for me.

Yep - they've asked for two - one is my current boss. The other they want external.
This is for each individual of a team of about 10 being put forward - not contracted to the client directly, but to develop some SW for them.
I think it might be a safeguard to ensure we don't just outsource to the sub continent or something!
I pointed out I"d be happy for them to call me directly, they already have a copy of my resume.

Yes, I was going to suggest that, too.

I'd offer up my mother in law if they required human sacrifice ..

Just tell your boss the client is clearly looking to poach the best members of our team, and then tell your boss "well, it's been nice working you".

Good call - except for the location of the client; I can't reveal much beyond the location ends in "stan"

Being rather old school I find this quite outrageous. However I am amazed at the new norms in our society (Australia) and others. Employees nowadays are willing to subject themselves to indignities which I would see as evidence of lack of self respect. Would anyone ask a doctor or lawyer to do this?
Employers are exercising a power creep which is amazing.

It is clear that you typed what you meant and you and other posters understand what you meant, but could you please explain what in the world a referee is used for in the business world? To me, a referee is a guy in a uniform running around with a whistle on some kind of grassy field.

A referee, in this sense, is a person who is willing to testify as to the character or capabilities of someone.

I'd say "reference" or "former boss / co-worker" goes in there.

In this sense a referee is someone who provides a reference to your employer.
someone to whom your employer can refer to find out about you.
Companies sometimes request a previous boss as a reference, some specify co-workers and some also require personal referees.
