Yeah, it's about that time, so I thought I'd get it over with and go to bed. The Macy's parade is likely to get called off because of wind, so I really don't have any reason to get up early tomorrow. It's going to be clear, sunny and about 75°F tomorrow in my neighborhood, so I might just hop in the pool.
My coworkers have mixed feelings about this holiday; they love having a four-day weekend, but it hurts them to think that, because their tribal ancestors were such good hosts, they now live in poverty and supplication to obtain government handouts. I have to agree with them; the dumbest thing the tribes in North America ever did was to teach our ancestors how to survive. Instead of teaching the illegal immigrants from across the sea that corn (then known as maize) grows better if one buries a dead fish under the planting, it might have been better for the tribes to understand that one can get far more bang for the buck by burying dead Pilgrims in the same spot.
Happy Thanksgiving, my friends. Try not to get arrested this year...

Hop into the pool. Good idea, only that we have no pool, temperatures are around the freezing point and the first experimental bits of snow have fallen.

yikes - Im glad I read your full post before I launched into 'Happy Thanksgiving Roger' .. as a Brit Comedian used to say 'may your god go with you', I echo the similar sentiment about Thanksgiving day to you (ie, "whatever you're into or not, have a good one")
Roger, [OT] do you know about electricity meters, for the domestic market, that have a 'pulse output' [/OT]

thanks Roger - thought that'd be the case
looking at monitoring elctrickery, water, gas usage for some holiday type units - all the sensors say they are pulse output, the trick is logging the data(are there will be many devices)

It would have happened eventually but things sure would have been a lot different had they chased the crazy white people away.

Bryce, I don't do this sort of work anymore, but I've been very happy with the service and support I've received from Arvixe.com this past year.

I was reading the account of the Newegg vs TQP case and it occurred to me that maybe patent trolls are eyeing the open source repositories.
I may not last forever but the mess I leave behind certainly will.

Nobody is safe from patent trolls...

I agree that no one is safe from the trolls, but I think the one thing that might make them safer is that there's little/no money in suing an open source developer. As that's their real goal (there's a 0% chance any of these companies will use the patents otherwise), most OS is safe.
RedHat, the OS parts of Oracle, and other profitable OS companies not included in the above.

That is simplistic.
Many larger popular open source projects are specifically supported by companies (ones with money) even to the extent that some developers work full time on open source development.
Additionally there are many, many more companies (again with money) that use open source software.
Both can be targeted.

Like the ones I mentioned?
Still, for these vultures, it's far easier to go after mid-sized companies that make a fair bit of change (thus them going after NewEgg and not Google) than for them to target RedHat or MariaDB or most other open source companies.

Open source guys are more likely to fight on principle (and to the death).
These monsters prey on people who look at the bottom line, and realise that it will cost more to fight than pay up.
