My main concern about switching to electric personally is how long the batteries last.
I prefer to purchase otherwise reliable cars on their last leg. Right now I have a 2006 Toyota Camry and I'm happy with it.
This is pretty eco friendly as well as being economical because the car has basically amortized its environmental impact by that point compared to any new car (gas or electric).
I'd prefer to keep doing this and switch to EV but I don't know if it's practical or not. I need to figure out how many miles/kilometers these batteries can handle before they go bust.

Depending on where you choose to live in the Great White North, the driving distance vs. cabin heat may be a consideration as well.

Current EV batteries should last over 500,000 miles. Remember, though that some degradation is normal, but if they degrade more than 20% there's a problem.

The last and current month have the electric grid maxed out and providers begging folks to cut back. We are not anywhere close to being ready for EVs as the norm.

Charge at night - that's what I do. This is using base power generation for my charging and not the peak power generators that are insufficient for the middle of the day.

You must live in the North? here in the South it is hot at night, hence A/C is going. I grew up in Phoenix, it don't ever get cool there.
What about winters in the North?, How does the frigid weather effect batteries?
You charge at night but if say a great number of people go electric then what? Charge using the initial in your last name?, every other day?
We ain't ready and there's nothing in the pipeline to get us ready.

I live in Denver. Summer heat isn't as bad as Arizona, but it stays hot at night. I haven't heard of rolling blackouts at night in Phoenix - the baseline power is sufficient. As for winter driving, expect 20% range loss between 0 and 32F and 30% below 0F. This is why range on an EV is important.
