Not your specific problem, but otherwise, Welcome to my world.

As my IoT code gets more complicated, so do the circuits required to take advantage of it.
For example, I now have a pretty capable little MIDI library that runs on IoT.
I've got a great demo project that uses it to create something that works like a sampler except it emits MIDI scores instead of raw audio.
The problem is that in order to use it you either need a special edition of an ESP32, or you need to wire up your own USB rig to your MCU, and you need to wire a rather involved little input circuit with an encoder and four microswitch pushbuttons on it.
That's not that bad, except that it undercuts anyone who is still getting their feet under them. They won't be able to build the demo.
And even those that can, it's quite a bit of work.
The creativity required for my projects isn't chiefly in making the code work anymore. It's in figuring out how to make it demoable.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

I'd like to congratulate you on your success with IoT projects.
Did you have previous experience with microcontrollers before you started?
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I did not, but I had experience on 16-bit CPUs because it's what I grew up coding so this was more like a continuation of my youthful endeavors.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

Just curious, for those of you using Unit Tests, what testing framework are you using and why?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
Everything makes sense in someone's mind.
Ya can't fix stupid.

we baked our own for C++ code.
We also use googletest for newer projects.
For C#, xunit (but I've not used it personally)

JUnit4 + Mockito + AssertJ is the setup I'm using right now; partly because that's what was already being used but I've also grown to like them. I use NUnit when I do C# so JUnit is right up my alley; Mockito is just great period; and I like AssertJ's fluent style over something like hamcrest.

C# developer here. I've been using xUnit with Moq and Fluent Assertions for some time now. To the extent that I write unit tests (which is less than the zeitgeist would suggest I should), I find this combo is decently enjoyable to work with.

For .NET - xUnit, because the company says so.
For Angular - Jest / Mocha, also because the company says so :P
