I actually use the mathematical approach - and online dictionary to look up words... I learn (and forgot) 3-4 new words every time I do the quiz...

Did it in three today. But the results are based on my initial guess, sometimes it's a good one, sometimes not.
And stupid question, how do you make those squares?

Copy'n'pasted from pkfox a week ago - then I threw together a dirty little app to generate them and copy 'em to the clipboard.

What?
You can copy the result directly on nytimes by pressing 'Share' which simply copy your result into the clipboard. And magically you can paste it directly here

I did not know that - I generally don't push "share" buttons

Same here. I googled first to be more or less sure 'Share' has nothing to do with social blabla stuff

I had a feeling that was the answer. Maybe @petepjksolutionscom can explain it if we ask him nicely.

It took me an effort to click the 'Share' button: I was afraid that Facebook, Twitter and Co would somehow appear

I did actually tell you how to do it but I see others have to - so now you know

If you click on share on the wordle site it copies your result to the clipboard

Off Topic, but what worries me:
a.) They can write to my clipboard without asking. Is it also possible they write GB to the clipboard in order to bring my device to its knees?
b.) I hope that 'reading' from my clipboard doesn't work without asking.
|
|
|
|
|
They can write to your clipboard because it was initiated from your click (human interaction). If you try to run the same JS from code it would be blocked...

I don't get your point. The button can be labled as 'Try again' what else... For me a silent access to my clipboard is critical
|
|
|
|
|
The piece of code, that does the actual copy to the clipboard can be called two ways
1. By human interaction (hitting a button that calls it)
2. By code (let say automatically when you solved the puzzle, just like the pop-up opens)
The first way is acceptable by most browsers, the second blocked...

Thank you very much for your explanation.
But does this also mean, on every click I have to be afraid that something can access my clipboard?
Sorry for my naiv questions, I have about zero idea about web development
|
|
|
|
|
Yes and no...
Most browsers allow only text (and some images) to be copied to the clipboard and only in secure context (and only from human initiated events)...
If you are concerned about the writing to your clipboard block it using the config of your browser...

Hi,
I am hoping it is ok, to ask for 30 year old piece of software here, if not Admin Please Delete.
I have been working through a bucket list of things I wish I had done back in the 1990's. One of them is some coding with MASM and debugging with SoftICE.
Apparently there is a product called Magic CV (Magic CodeView) / Magic CVW (Magic CodeView for Windows 3.1?) that allow CodeView to be used with SoftICE for DOS.
I have looked on, and asked on a lot of retro software sites, including FaceBook, but it seems to be unobtainium.
And have even sent an email to the current owners (Microfocus) to ask if they could release the DOS version of SoftICE & Magic CV to the retro community.
But nothing.
Is anyone able to help?

Why specifically do you want to use a thirty five year old product (it was released in 1988!) that is unlikely to run properly on a modern computer and OS?
If you want to use assembler code, then why not use a modern IDE to learn / develop it? MASM - Microsoft Docs[^] is included in Visual Studio, and that's freely available for individuals (select a version and download the Community Edition from Microsoft).
You'll get modern tools, with a larger support community when things go pear shaped ...

Mate,
I have no interest in modern software. It is just my hobby, it is things that I never completed in the 1990's.
The projects are part of my bucket list.
Regards,
Craig
