I tried PLUCK and STRUM, but missed that one entirely!

I got away with naming our first cat "Microwave the cat in orange sauce" because it annoyed the neighbours and Herself was up for that.
But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were all Herself: Killashandra, Polgara, and Beldin. There are no prizes for guessing what books she was reading at the time.
The 5th came with a name: Bill.
The current is Dij because it was "short" for "Digital" - as a kitten he was either ON (and doing a Wall of Death round the room) or OFF (and you could have plucked all his fur out and he wouldn't have moved a muscle).
An ex boss was told in no uncertain terms that no computing terms were allowed for his dog's name: "Pip" was thought to be fine until a year later SWMBO discovered it was short for "Peripheral Interchange Program". Too late to change by then ...
Friends have had pets called "Glitch" and "Cookie" which have sneaked in under the radar.
But I never got away with "Five" (from "CAT 5") or "Script" from "Script Kitty".
What about you? Any Computer / software / tech related pets?

My (programmer nerd) son's cat is pixel .
I've done sort of the opposite and named devices after pets.
Software rusts. Simon Stephenson, ca 1994. So does this signature. me, 2012

My Pixel (cat) is named after Heinlein's The Cat Who Walks Through Walls since she has a remarkable talent for suddenly appearing out of nowhere.
Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors - and miss.

I think all cats have this ability.

Do does your son's cat walk through walls?

I name my cats after characters from books, movies and games.
My first one, when I was five years old, was Siepie, from the Dutch children's book Jip en Janneke[^].
After that, which is a 20+ year leap, comes Cid, who is still my parent's cat, and comes from the Final Fantasy series (but I based him on FFVII)[^].
After that I've had Nika, which was her name given to her by the shelter and which I kept because she listened to it.
Now I have Jiji, from Kiki's Delivery Service[^].
Not sure what the next one will be yet, but I've always liked Fizzgig from The Dark Crystal[^]

He didn't listen to his name, but would come running when I praised him. "Goedzo", meaning "well done".

Black cat, and it didn't play nice with the other cat, nor their toddler. He would attack out of nowhere.
No small kids here, his behaviour changed in a week. Became affectionate instead of aggressive. He made friends with two dogs, but doesn't allow other cats in the yard.

I name my cats after the 72 demons in the Goetia.

I always have named cats after their predominant feature. I have had Zingiberaceae, Gannet and Vincent, for instance. I will leave it as an exercise for the reader to discern the feature that gave rise to the name.

I think I've got two - Vincent I can only guess has a lump of his ear missing ?

More than a lump - nearly all of it. In later years he became ennobled as King Vince the Fat, again owing to a predominately significant feature.

My wife has 6 cats made from wood. I cut them out, she painted them (she is artist).
She gave them names like fluffy.
I call them kindling1, kindling2, etc.
Then I run for cover.

My local library was hatching chickens and when the first one hatched I named it "Benedict" on the chicken cam's comment stream.

My current canine is named Ruby fwiw.

Nope, we got our cats from people that did not want them anymore and they already had names

I've considered naming one of my cats "laptop" for obvious reasons. I like when they sit on laptops. It's very meta.
The reason I haven't is because I have a thing about naming my cats after tyrants and failed leaders.
I had a Maine Coon named Chairman Maow. I currently have a chantilly named Groucho Mugabe - because he's slightly cross eyed and caused an adorable food crisis when we brought him home.
I have a friend who named her cats Nixon and Reagan and I thought that was perfect.

I wanna name our next dog "Knuckles". Or "Zero". It remains to be seen if SWMBO will let me have naming rights.

Not computer, but on a similar vane, one of my cats is named Coatrack and the large Maine Coon is Brawndo.

Pfft, everyone who's anyone knows that. I learned it in my first semester of learning BASIC on the high school's PDP-11. I have some print-outs here...
