And never been capable of fighting either. The reason for our prosperity is cooperation.

Unless, you know, people wouldn't fight
Our forefathers did a lot of fighting and as a result I never had to fight in my life.
I was born into peace and still know it today, same for my parents.
Their parents lived during WWII, but of the four, only one is still alive.
So tell me, who are you fighting that you need all those guns?

Our second amendment was written specifically to allow us to overthrow our government if needed. Our freedoms are laid out in our Declaration of Independence (yes, the forgotten document) where it spells out that a free people have the fundamental right to replace their government at any time they feel they're being trampled on by said government. The second amendment is there to enforce that right.

Yes, two and a half centuries ago, in which time you've never used it other than to defend gun ownership, so that makes it totally relevant today

THe 2nd ammendment is irrelevant??? It's never been more relevant than today.
Is the 1st irrelevant? The 4th? The 5th?
They're not irrelevant because the 2nd still is.

But this guy is a congressman...he is the government. He owns guns...what, in case he needs to overthrow what are essentially his coworkers?

True, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that he, and everyone else in the United States, has this as a fundamental right if needed.

Respectfully, I would suggest that even if it was written with that intent, in the meantime said government bought a few tanks, airplanes, missiles, etc. while prohibiting the populace to buy any of them. Today your chance of "fighting the government" with guns is a bit less than zilch.

Search your "amendments" or whatever they are for nukes.
You already lost that arms race. Please stop being rediculous.

My husband is a member of a gun club, and they train, and provide security for events.
He doesn't pose with his weapons. To the degree that it's a hobby, he does what a normal person with a hobby like that would do, and go to the range.
One of things about this country that has been steadily eroded by lobbyists is emphasis on gun safety.
And people wonder why we get some new story every week about some moron who shouldn't have had guns or kids being blown away by their toddler.

Only the government is allowed to handle guns, so army and police.
Security is rarely armed over here.
We do have shooting ranges, but I know very few people who've ever been there, one or two I think.
I guess this is unimaginable to many Americans, but guns simply do not exist in daily life over here.
I mean, of course they exist, but it's almost always illegal and criminal.
In 2019, someone shot some people in a tram in Utrecht, near where I work.
That's the closest I've ever been to guns.
There was also a shooting at a mall about ten years ago, people still remember it, even if they've never been there.
I think we've had one school shooting ever.

People are allowed to organize militias in this country, fgs. At least in my state they are. Those militias can operate as an armed presence at part of an event where they are welcome. There is nothing illegal about that.
Google orgs like Socialist Rifle Association and the John Brown Gun Club.
We are talking about something different, clearly. Trouble is, I don't know what you're talking about.

I'll stand corrected...
...my experience is limited. I don't attend events where armed militias are needed - they sound "unhealthy".
