Keep in mind that Google sets some drop-dead dates for support, so once yours is no longer supported, you start being at risk for exploits that will never get patched just like Android phones and tablets whose support has been prematurely dropped by manufacturers. Which is pretty bad for a system that is designed to be continuously online.
To me, that pretty much rules them out completely. I have a number of 12-15 year old laptops I'm still getting some uses for, and if I cannot do with the hardware whatever I may please, that makes them a non-starter.
Best compromise - if it's not so locked down that you can blow the OS away and replace it with some version of Linux, do it on day one so you have nothing committed to ChromeOS.

I got the overpriced but pretty slick pixelbook go. There is a path to putting Debian Linux running inside of the Android os. Set up Linux on your Chromebook - Chromebook Help[^] I’ve had moderate success running VS code. It’s definitely under powered, but it’s a pretty nice environment for fooling around. Unsure about xamarin dev work though.

It's unlikely you'll be able to upgrade the SSD or the RAM. Depending on the model the machine might be glued together or the RAM soldered to the motherboard.

The confusion was you had to remove an anagram of green tit - different though

Well, not an anagram as it wasn't a word - just remove each of the letters!
Oh well, I'll do a hard one tomorrow ... maybe.

And the day has been GREAT! Everyone was super nice, very collaborative, everybody agreed with me on everything and went out of their ways to help me and complied to every minimal request.
At lunch, when I unpacked my beef cut I brought from home, it dawned on me why: today I was a steak holder in the company.

my switch to control porch lights is damaged due to a lightning in my area month ago.
so I bought a new switch from Home Depot. today I spent time to find out how to program this switch.
the instruction manual is written well as a programmer's user guide. I read through all the steps and did some highlights for important tips.
one press on ON/OFF button caused a click event. every event needs to be programmed. so I can program 7 days by programming 14 events, but I select ALL(they are same everyday).
event #1 is DUSK at 7:53PM. event #2 is DAWN at 5:31AM. it looks like macro definition in C/C++.
once DUSK and DAWN are defined, the left is to program these events.
after about an hour, I finished all installation of wall box. turned on general lighting in outside power control panel, all works!
WARNING: you must turn off general lighting power from outside power control panel!!!

I assume those aren't constants?

I skipped this: built-in timer will trigger event#1 at DUSK, trigger event#2 at DAWN.
my previous timer does not use battery. so each outage will cause timer to delay timing. so after long time, all schedules are corrupted....
