My phone line has developed severe noise on it this afternoon. A quick check disconnecting everything and plugging a phone directly into the master socket suggests that the fault is external to the house.
The result of the noise is that the broadband can't sustain a connection. Reported to the service provider, but get a feeling it is weather related and going by the BT status pages, the NE Scotland is quite a bad area for faults at the moment, so delays to resolve are extensive. I am hoping that because it is a business line and not a consumer line the service levels will be better.
I have had to setup my Android phone as a hotspot and then wifi connect my laptop to the phone to use the 3G connection. Working surprisingly well.
Edit: Looks like it is back working for the time being!

I quite regularly stream tv over 3G when I at the skatepark with the boy (one can only watch so much skating and scooting) and we are in a poor coverage area.
Having a second device try to do anything through the hotspot usually brings it to its knees though .
