If you haven't read them The Axis of Time Trilogy' is worth a read. 21st Century task force sent back to World War II though a time warp, great but what happens when your supplies start drying up??? Worth a read.

I did start to read them, but my lack of historical knowledge made them a little less enjoyable, I think!

Well I suppose I am little more knowledgeable in regards to that bit of History (my parents had me late in life, and were children during WWII, meaning I was raised on diet war movies, comics and now the History channel).

There is probably one (Based on posts by member on guns) on CP who can comment about authenticity/accuracy of details on GUN and that would be Roger Wright
There can be more on CP who are expert of guns, don't shoot me....!
Thanks,

... being able to pin your apps to the taskbar and just work in desktop mode and have it be essentially the same then as Win7 Don't think I ever use any Win8 apps and it works pretty well. The mistake is in using it for 30 secs and getting the impression that you have to switch over and actually use those full screen WinRT apps.

What? It doesn't even say "Don't Panic" in large friendly letters? What utter rubbish.
Glad to be of service.

Look at the bright side. (specially for you) When you install Windows 8 on your Mac, you will not miss the Aero-Glass. Since it's gone you will not feel that you are missing anything. A complete Windows experience on a Mac.

Windows 8(.1) does have one good think!!!
You can to choose NOT install it!!!

Well they do have some new security features like.......
Hide the setting so it is more difficult to disable automatic updates or turn of UAC.
And of course if UAC is disabled then some Apps won’t work correctly and won't tell you why
And many more security features.

Even that sucks, so it's perhaps the world's first case of recursive suckage.
Mind you, it's OK for phones and tabs.
Where was it that we were listing things that different OSes were best at, and the only thing we could come up with for iOS was "connecting to itunes"?
It seems that even that is no longer the case[^].

Thinking back to the time when it was first sold for about £20 in the UK, I can now say to myself it was the best £20 I never spent.

I like it.
Access everything with the search.
Tiles, much quicker than any start menu item.
Defender, everything safe.
Looks cool.
Note sure what people are bitching about. Just learn how to use it.

Rage wrote: Tiles, much quicker than any start menu item. I have in excess of 300 start menu items, each of them accessible with two clicks. How many dozens of swipes would it take for that -- also bearing in mind that a lot of programs with completely different functions have similar names, and that a lot have names that don't actually tell you what they do?

My desktop looks cool, as do lots of other people's. Win 'ate looks like baby blocks -- nothing cool to see here; move along.

The start menu does exactly the same thing without switching you to a completely different screen to do it
Rage wrote: Tiles, much quicker than any start menu item
We used to have Desktop icons before search, and that's effectively what the Start screen is (or just a more integrated version of the Apple Launchpad)
Rage wrote: Defender, everything safe.
I have Windows Defender on Win7. And it's not safe. None of them are truly safe.
