Wrong, it does not go back far enough - try 53-57, actually from 50 on.

Well, the first song that played for me was by the Hanson Brothers, so I think we can exclude 1997 as one of the golden years.

I was thinking the exact same thing!

That site is rubbish. It doesn't go back far enough to include Hank Williams Sr.! In the words of the Highway Men: If you don't like Hank Williams - you can k*ss my *ss!

No need to kiss your ass then.
Can't make everyone happy you know, soon Chris C-B wakes up and complains about the list missing a few centuries.

Maybe you are right, but the list starts far too late, with 1997 - maybe 1977...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

The list doesn't start at 1997, the index defaults to it, try again.

I disagree. Music was different, but better or worse is not easy to compare, given the different socio-economic circumstances and the availability of different technology for playing and recording. Not to mention counter-movements to "popular music" in a specific area. But it is nice to look back every now and again
|
|

I disagree with your disagreement.
Good music is timeless. Look at Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi. Their recording technology was a piece of paper.
(And yes, I know. The site doesn't go back that far)
|
|
|
|

Of course. But how can you measure something timeless, when it hasn't had enough time to be nostalgic yet? Given that nostalgia is remembering only the good stuff from the past. Even if you go to the 50's -that's what 66 years? Against roughly 300 years? That's a biased point of view in my opinion. And a lot of music from the 50's is still remembered now and listened to by younger generations. Current music cannot be timeless, since it's just been made. That just isn't a fair criteria for me.
|
|
|
|
|
You do have some songs later then the 50's that are timeless.
Queen's 'The Show Must Go On', for example.
I do have to think harder to get something like that later than the 80's, though.
(Mostly because I am old )
Anyhow, music very often trigger memories and sometimes you have a good memory associated with the most horrific or ridiculous songs.

George Jonsson wrote: Look at Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi Who somehow couldn't compose a simple Beatles song
Mozart was just the Kanye West of his time. Except I like Mozart and not Kanye West.
Just saying it's different, not better or worse.
And having said that, more people listen to Justin Bieber than Mozart, so who's actually the better musician (if you can call Bieber that )?
|
|

Nothing simple about The Beatles music, it is actually pretty intricate according to music experts.
And who many will listen to Bieber in a couple of years?
I know his name, but I wouldn't recognize a single song.
Is he famous for his music or for being famous?

George Jonsson wrote: And who many will listen to Bieber in a couple of years? That's what they said about The Beatles too (that and that the world was going to end)
Anyway I don't know, but all the kids who are now 6 to 16 (and have no taste whatsoever) might still listen to Bieber for a while to come
George Jonsson wrote: The Beatles music, it is actually pretty intricate according to music experts Yeah, Mozart just needed more notes

If I could predict the future I would either be stinking rich or spending my money as fast as I could.
Let's hope you are wrong about Bieber, otherwise the future might be like in Demolition Man where the only music people listens to are jingles for the likes of MacDonalds etc.
