You have a particularly nasty virus on your machine, called Windows 10. Your only recourse is to completely uninstall it, and perform at least half a dozen secure data wipes on the drive before reinstalling Windows 7.

Yes I still prefer Windows 7 also. However dual boot issue has been a problem for a while. Maybe not this particular issue, but others.

I personally think that Win10 is far better than WIN7 and WIN8.1 and I will certainly stick with it. I like the way you can get at all your installed apps and all the system information and actions without resorting to Godmode.

I do love that for whatever reason the boot system is pretty stupid. When I created a boot disk on one computer to use on another, I had this problem, and the disk was not even available to boot off of.
In another case I had two disks with the system installed on it, and it would always take the first one. Seems like it should be programmed to prefer the last one run.

Today is SysAdmin Appreciation Day[^]
And it's also the end of "Upgrade to Win 10 or we'll kill your parents" Day as well.

Of course a better way to show appreciation is to raise salaries. Use to be being in IT meant really good salaries, but not anymore. Think it was because of all the tech people brought in from India, China, Russia, etc.

I came across this in our company hour registration system
"It should be noted that no ethically-trained software engineer would ever consent to write a DestroyBaghdad procedure. Basic professional ethics would instead require him to write a DestroyCity procedure, to which Baghdad could be given as a parameter." - Nathaniel S. Borenstein

Well, it makes sense. Otherwise, you'd have to write a custom method for each city you want to destroy. I do, however, feel that additional parameters might be necessary, such as ordinance type, a flag indicating collateral damage support, as well as some exception handling, for things like city already destroyed, an things like that.

Quote: city already destroyed This should throw a "CityAlreadyDestroyedException" or possibly a "CityNotFoundException".

I think either one of those, or CityIsAlreadySmokingHoleInGroundException .

No need to destroy the city. Let it destroy itself.

«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

Thinking abstractly, but not too abstractly, is a skill that many lack. Or, if you prefer:
Programming should be made as abstract as possible, but not overly abstract.

Yeah, such an important skill and many people miss it...
Maybe they should code a little in Piet[^]. It doesn't get more abstract than Mondriaan

Even that's too specific for my tastes.
I'd prefer something along the lines of
public void DestroyLocation(latitude, longitude, radius)

|
|

How about something that could take out that pesky driver in front of me.
public void DestroyLocation(currentlatitude, currentlongitude, direction, velocity, radius)

I think you might need a somewhat accurate timestamp too; else if there is a time delay of even a few 100 milliseconds, you might instead destroy yourself.

That seems awfully specific as well!

Actually the method would be called "Destroy" and the class, derived from the class "Target", would be "City", "Bridge", "ToyotaPickup" or whatever.
