But Can It Run Crysis?

I suppose it can, in the same way it can "run" Doom. Or anything else for that matter.
What's the effective resolution of an Etch-a-sketch anyway?

From here: 325 mesh[^], which is about 7 to 15 microns[^], which works out to about 2270 grains per inch if I've done my math right. Of course, that is under ideal, no-clumping, conditions. And a perfect stylus.

A 15 micron stylus? Sounds a tad optimistic.

No kidding.
Otherwise...who needs 4K when you've got an Etch-a-sketch??

I thought this was way cool. All that work could get erased so easily though, yikes.

It has to, so you get the next frame.

Somebody needs to draw a frame, take a picture, draw another frame, take another picture, etc. And then string all the pictures together (30 frames a second) to create a smooth animation.
Project of a lifetime. So...how long should we bet until somebody does it?

As expected, the "upgrade" from Win7 to Win10 is crashing into sh*t.
The IT guy I talk to on a semi-regular basis claimed last week that the upgrade wouldn't affect our installed software, and said we would come in to work the next day, and we could get right to work. Wrong. Four laptops in my office were upgraded, and none of them still had the mission-critical software that WAS on them, and no indication of why.
I suspect that they just applied a standard OS image to the machine (as DoD sites are wont to do), which does not include the specialized software required by people in our office.
Now, we have four completely useless machines in our office, and they will remain useless because our department is somewhere near the bottom of the priority list to have issues resolved.
Even more fun - Wednesday, they're supposed to do the rest of our machines - mine included. I will at least have an excuse for not being able to work on Qlikview, so silver linings I suppose...

Over 3700 computers (at our site) have to be replaced because they're not compatible with Win10... I wonder how long it's gonna take for that to happen (it took our department a year and a half to get the computers we have now, from date of request to initial user log-in).

Boy am I glad I work at a small company (only 20 persons)
But recently I had my part of Windows 10 update troubles after our TeamCity builder was updated, the system had become unstable, I could not even open the Start menu anymore.
Also signing with signtool.exe suddenly would not work anymore, so I had to setup a completely new TeamCity server which took about a week !

So exactly what are you expected to do when you have a system that's missing the software you need to do your job, and your hands are tied behind your back in such as way that you can't even manage said system yourself?
Genuinely wondering - I've only worked for a large company for a few short years, but have been fortunate enough I guess never to have found myself in that sort of situation during that time.
I'd be doing everything I can to cover my ass and ensure I can't be blamed for projects that have a fixed deadline, and can't move forward due to other people's incompetence. Like, archived email trail, if not signing actual papers.

You sit patiently at your desk and wait your turn. There are over 5000 computers that need to upgraded, 3700 of which need to be completely replaced completely. They have four guys assigned to resolve issues, so eventually, everything will be copacetic. They promise.

All of our data lives on a network share, so there are no worries in that regard. Only the apps have to be reinstalled, and the IT guys have to do it. It's not so much incompetence as it is piss poor planning.

Images are the devil's work. Once a machine becomes a development machine IT services should NOT be allowed to touch them again. What's good for the people in marketing is not okay for developers. We NEED to be able to muck around in our systems.

Not where I work and it seems JSOP is working under one of the most restrictive regimes there is. We get the same spec as other users, possibly an additional 8gb of memory, and no admin rights. We only have access to the dev and uat servers because they got sick of 4-5 requests for access every day.
At least our win10 upgrade is going smoothly, almost certainly due to good planning and testing, we had over 6000 machines to be upgraded. MS loves banks!

The DoD is very strict. If you’re a dev, you MUST maintain a Security+ CE cert, even if you don’t have any admin rights. I have a MCSA for SQL Server 2012, and I have only just enough permissions on our server to almost do my job.
It’s f*ckin absurd.

Hey, I have to log directly onto a server as Admin to do ANY of my job...because using run-as with whatever tool I need from my desktop is forbidden. Apparently, it's SO much better for me to have unfettered access to every nook and cranny of the servers, than it would be for me to just use SSMS from my desktop to manage a database.

I understand the need for images. It trivializes machine itinitialization. They’ll install our special software again - it’s just a hassle to wait for them to do it.
On a DoD computer, you have to jump thru 3x as many hoops to get a local admin account. If that’s the way they want to play it, I’m happy just being a non-admin user. I’m paid the same either way.

Curious on this DoD machines - do they still epoxy the USB ports?

No. They i think they install something that alerts them when someone inserts a USB device so they can send the Spanish Inquisition up to confiscate your computer, box up every paper on your desk, and put you in stocks at the main entrance so passers-by can pelt you with rotten vegetables.

Well, at least the machines that you do have apparently had TPM 2 on them. We're still in process of replacing all our domain machines for W10 compliance (we had TPM 1), and I had the distinct joy of disabling all W7 machines a couple weeks ago.
You guys need to petition for someone to get ISSO status in your shop. Sec+ and DAA/Commander's memo is all that DODI 8570 requires for IAT I designation, which would be appropriate for local administration.
