Foreign language? Sorry I speak English so you'll need to explain to me what a "foreign language" is and why anyone would want to speak it.

Isn't British English considered a foreign language?

My English tutor always said that British is the only form of English, and that American was an "accident, not a language"

Ask him why programming languages use American spelling then?

You are to learn the language, not the accident - even if the entire world does it wrong, that's not an excuse.
One of her favorite remarks is "no buts, or I'll kick yours". So no, not taking that risk

He obviously got it all wrong.
It's not an accident - it's evolution. It is obviously (unambiguously) the most fit of the two. As for the version he prefers? I believe it's pronounced "Extinction".

She. Imagine a small big mother clucker/hen that breathes fear into mortal men.
It is an accident in the terms that it is a dialect made up out of English, German and Dutch, bastardizing words, simplifying writing to child-like and ignoring "stuff" that makes the language predictable (grammar?) English (and Dutch) is ironically built on exceptions to the rule and hard to learn to do right. Easy to learn the basics, harder to learn if you grew up without. Most that had access to Hollywood movies learned easily.
At the time, I felt English was the most accessible language, with almost every manual containing an English version. English united developers, like the Academics hoped Esperanto would unite Europe. German is unhelpfull, as it contains lots of non-ASCII characters.
128 characters to rule them all. 64 to the Kings of Elves, 32 to the Kings of Dwarves, 16 to the Kings of Mankind.. and 16 stolen by some little brat before they could be infused.

A good parallelism to tender unto your tutor, when he complains about American English.

In my experience, even English is a foreign language for many Americans (and I don't mean the immigrants).

You must mean people who only speak one language but speak it with expected 2nd language fluency?

In Spanish, the word for left-handed and the word for deaf are very similar. I used to purposely misuse them and say things like, "Sorry, I can't hear you, I'm left-handed." I think I was the only one who found it humorous.
Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it.
Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.
