I don't know, but when I see someone wearing one it looks creepy. It makes me uneasy, but I'm not sure why.

Utterly convincing? A bit naff?
It's like being inside of the game, literally, Tron-style. If you have the graphics horsepower and a good game, it's very convincing.
What it's best for are flight/driving sims. You know the kind of folks who spend thousands on realistic flight/driving controllers and arrays of monitors for a wide field of view? VR is perfect for that and actually cheaper than alternatives, but that's a small niche market. Most games don't translate well to VR and there aren't a lot of games made for VR out there, there are a lot of ports but they're generally not very good.

Not for the first time, I was trying to conduct some online business and put in an email contact address. This was a bank - but other sources match this stupidity.
In this case, it accepted my input on the screen - but their system insists it's an invalid email address. In other cases, the email was rejected at the client side. Why you may ask?
Well, it ends with a four-character extension. It's not .com, .net, or .org, so I guess it cannot be real ? ? ? ".info" is not some johnny-come-lately extension.
WTF's up with these software developers, aside from being dropped on their heads, repeatedly, as infants?
This stupid is layered. It was to send me a verification code. They only had telephone contact options and they wanted my home phone during setup. They have it. I'm not there. Now what? No one, it seems, considered any sort of provision for this or anything other than every user must have a cell-phone welded to their genitalia as their only mode of contact.

Programmers are cheapest if they come without much professional training. The industry certainly has a preference for those, and still wonders why there are so many security issues.

Well, the genius' have the bank's money for their system.
MEANWHILE, the bank doesn't have my money as they couldn't validate me.
So far, the only thing gotten as a result of this (that I'm aware of) is me having gotten quite annoyed.

I've had that a couple of times with the .nl extension. God knows which brand of cornflakes packet they get their domain-extension lists from.
Mind you, my favourite was a Dutch satellite data company I used to subscribe to. The name fields of their form were:
- Voornaam (forename)
- Tussenvoegsel (the little bit in the middle, like "de" or "van", that many Dutch folks have)
- Achternaam (surname)
All three fields were mandatory, so say hi to "Mark de Wallace".

What gets my goat is when an email is rejected because the domain is hyphenated. As my domain is: Aaaaa-Bbbbb.com
Most times you can get round this: give them a mailinator address for signup, then change it in to the real one when you're signed up. Works almost every time, as "developers" who are too lazy to check what is and isn't valid where don't bother to check validity on "change to" addresses ...

Beats me why they did not use one of the standard 'approved' regexs[^](the Perl version being a personal favourite) which usually allows for a lot of leeway in email addresses.
Maybe they think validating an email address is easy

I've recently had my self-hosted email address rejected. I can only guess that it was because it doesn't use https. I've had a number of customers (maybe 2%) now whos email systems refuse it for that reason. One of these days I will actually replace that server and get a cert for it. In the meantime, it's good to have multiple email addresses...just have them use the other one.

Strictly speaking, in either case, someone has signed off on this, and "these software developers" shouldn't have the authority to do so themselves. So who are you gonna blame?
