If you're told to better not drink it, it may be better to not eat it as well.

It is not about wine - it is about alcohol... After cooking it, the taste is the only thing left, so no problem there...

For beer you can go to the alcohol-free version, but never heard of alcohol free wine.

Does the low price means low quality? Have you ever tasted it?

I've not tasted it, but the low price probably reflects the low tax: about £2 of the cost of a £5 bottle of wine in the UK is alcohol tax, which makes them very comparable.

I just read about the process of making it, and it seems that the taste should be preserved - I may look for it...

That depends on how you cook it, and how long you cook it for:

And I do not eat either...

You obviously have the wrong doctor.
Mine specifically wants me to have one (or two) alcoholic beverages a day (to raise my HDL) - which is more than I can handle . . . it's the thought that counts.
So just switch and everything will be fine.

I've found good and bad in all 3 categories... the Mrs. is partial to the dry reds from [yellow tail] wines - Great Australian wine[^] which usually fall into "A".
On a related note: The Mrs. and I have made a couple batches of homemade wine in the last year or so. Turned out wonderful.

about 200 - 1000, comes with a free plane ride to some faraway destination.
(even better when someone else is paying, and it's not as if I'm stupid enough to pretend to be important and pull out a laptop on a flight.)

actually normally I have the wine to help me nod off.
- comparable alcohol-amount of beer meant getting up to go to the loo,
- tried spirits: coz of plane dehydrating too easy to overdo - no fun on landing: collect bags, customs etc.

Five Liters @ US$17, more or less. Fortunately, I only have a taste for good scotch. Wine's a much more expensive indulgence - sure - I can taste a difference - but it's not worth any money to me.
So - for a 750ml bottle we're talking roughly about £2.0

Depends on the purpose. Anywhere between $10 and $250.
I cook with it more than I drink it, but, if I don't like the taste drinking it, I don't cook with it either.
Come to think of it, I've got a bottle of Black Star Farms ACapella ice wine in the fridge right now. Thanks for the reminder!

How expectations change, when we first arrived in Singapore we were horrified that a cheap drinkable bottle of wine was $20-30 (approx 15 of your currency) at the supermarket a good bottle started around $50. The minimum at a restaurant was $100 and went up rapidly.
Having returned to Oz the prices have become more reasonable
Quaffer approx $10
Good table wine $20
Special occasion $50
Restaurant $50
And these are generally old world wines as we find the Oz wines too sweet.
