I worked on a contract with a local company for about 3 years. Never completed the project because they kept changing things. Always scope creep. The finally got frustrated and cancelled it about 6 months ago.
Today I get an email from the guy:
We are considering having someone do some more work with it.
You were going to send me the source code and a waiver doc for you.
Give me a call so we can discuss.
Also, what other info would another programmer need? What language is it, etc.
I take this as "You didn't do a good job and we want to restart the project, just not with you". I'm OK with that because it was a real PITA and I'm glad to be rid of them.
As far as the waiver, I asked them to sign a Release From Liability. I basically want them to not come after me if this other guy does something wrong.
Anyone have a Release From Liability template or something similar? Please don't refer me to a lawyer. I don't want to spend $300 to have him print out a form for me.
Any thoughts on this?

It really was a genuine attempt to help, with a dose of irony as well. It was the first thing I did, google the relevant phrase. Then I though I'd help you out... Sorry if you thought that was stupid.

I don't know what state you're from, but here's one that seems to fit the bill for Utah and is cheap:
Mutual Release of Claims Based on Contract with Rescission of Contract[^]
You can get a free preview by clicking the free preview link.
You'd probably want to start from their home page and enter your state...
Maybe you can type up your own from the free preview.

Obviously, anyone can Google it but I assume Kevin wanted someone's opinion on the best form of non-liability form; perhaps from another developer such as those found here on CP (occasionally)?

I think most open source licenses have a clause for that, maybe you could adapt one of those. (Open source licenses are open source too right? )

I find it funny that "liability", a legal term, is pronounced "lie ability".

Sounds like work to me. Presumably you are going to bill them for completing their requested task.

Before you go down the path of liability, whose source code is it? Yours or the company requesting it? If it's yours, fine you can decide to give it away and ensure there is no subsequent liabilty, bt if it belongs to the company, how is it you have a copy?
