Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox; it just manifests itself much more severely as you get older. AFAIK the vaccine is the same one that you give your kids so you can put your tin foil hat away.

There is a huge number of people in their 70's. An example is that there are over 4 million people in their 70's who still hold UK driving licenses, and that number I suspect is a proportion of those in their 70's. So I guess it would be a difficult to plan and organise for that number in any one year let alone how expensive it would be to vaccinate them all.

I perfectly understood that. I was merely pointing out that the people aged 71 will have to wait 8 years to get their vaccine. Which at 71, can be quite long.

Yes, I agree. And from this [^] a higher rate in the 70 age group could suggest that the NHS is wrong to discriminate those aged between 71 and 78.
