Tickets are about to go on sale for Coachella and I'm looking for reasons not to buy them. Looks like they are redirecting visitors to a splash page and are going to have a captcha to enter once tickets go on sale (which means I can't create a tool to automatically buy the tickets). It seems they are finally learning how to deal with a giant surge of traffic.
Looks like fun, but it's also fairly expensive. If you can come up with some reasons for me not to go, tell me now, otherwise I will do something stupid and pay a bunch of money for a weekend of fun. Though, I have always wanted to see Red Hot Chili Peppers, so they better be good reasons!

Here's a reason to go: ModeStep[^].

You'll be surrounded by a bunch of mindless (iDevice dependent) drones that strive to be different and expressive, yet do exactly what they are told their demographic should do.

Birds of a feather. A while back I asked you fine Lounge folk to give me reasons not to buy a Mac. You all failed me.

I said dependent, as in those that couldn't walk home from their mailbox without a device with GPS on it.

So because of others he should not go to a show and have fun ?

Yes. What else is the point of going to a massive expensive show in the middle of the desert, just to see a few bands, out of 160, that you like. You will only see your bands from far away, pressed up against incredibly bad smelling people, and your view will be obstructed by idiots holding up their iDevice to record the show, to show off that they got tickets because they got hooked up via a friend with a sh*tty music blogger, rather than enjoy the music.
Massive festivals are like the arena shows of the 70's minus the reasons they were fun. We have 2 major ones in my town (Lollapalooza & Pitchfork), I've seen enough of it.
I shell out money to see bands I like in venues I like. I've shelled out a lot of money to see them with audiences that appreciate them.

This is my opinion as well. If I want to see a band, I will see that band at one of their shows, not some huge festival. Much better experience. I could imagine myself going to a smaller festival-like event if it were between 5-10 bands, but not one of these huge super-fests like Coachella or Bonnaroo.

You would probably like the ATP festival then. I always play poker after the last band, end up meeting most of the musicians (they don't like to party while on tour as much as you'd think).
This is how a music festival, scratch that, convention should run:

One of the bands at Coachella, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy seeing in a small venue this year.

I refreshed the page right at 10AM, and got the above message. Might mean I won't be able to go.

Weekend 1 is sold out, and weekend 2 won't load. Looks like I won't be going.

Everything loaded fine on a coworker's computer. They must have placed a cookie or something that marked me as a person who wasn't allowed to purchase.

Both times were amazing, but the first time was definitely better. The new guitarist (Josh Klinghoffer) is great, but he's just not the same as John Frusciante. John is a musical genius.
