Were you approached by one of their recruiters or did you submit it directly?

Figured I'd submit directly. After driving around Irvine I figured why not. It's a spiffy building... clickety[^].

I suggest watching this before the interview so you'll know what you're in store for. It's all true.

Oh, I've seen it. Funny movie. I'm not so worried about it. I'll end up where I need to end up to do what it is I need to do so that I can be me and all that. Deep stuff I know.

At least it won't be very taxing there.

Short opinions welcome.
Task: Organize about ninety business cards
Question for opinions: Set up a spreadsheet ? Set up a Database ?
|
|
|
|

Can't make a suggestion without more information: In what period of time did you accumulate the 90 cards?
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

That is a truly insightful question.
If it took him 10 years to get all those, throw them in a spreadsheet.
If he's going to get 90 more tomorrow? DATABASE!!!!

Three day period, generally 3 minute conversations with 90 different companies.

Spreadsheet.
90 business cards is not a large number.
I'd rather be phishing!

I would go with a spreadsheet.
You have not told us how much information is associated with each business card - however if it's just a name, address, phone number and email then I would go for a spreadsheet.
90 lines of information is not too many distinct values to work with in dropdown filters and sorting which is why I would use a spreadsheet.

Why do some people use Excel as a Database, a company I worked for used to keep there complete stock of components on an Excel sheet.
Also they used to keep the records of repairs in a sheet, when I took over I changed to using an Access data base but was critised for using a non-searchable system(?)

A spreadsheet is easy to open and work with. But a database could hold more and is much more extensible. But on the other hand you might need an app written to work with the data. having said that you could easily write an app that gives you your business card data from anywhere.
The true answer to your question depends on what you plan to do with the data in the future.
Oh, BTW - this question really belongs in Design and Architecture forum.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

A database that can import/export spreadsheets.

Let me kick in that open door; one does not use a spreadsheet for database-purposes.
No, I am not going to discuss that.

Have a gazillion rep-points (or part thereof). The misuse of spreadsheets for data storage/management purpose drives me to homicidal rage - particularly when I get called in to sort out the mess of layers of linked spreadsheets into something useable.

Well over a hundred (I kid you not) linked spreadsheets spread over 3 servers and more VBA code sheets than I've had hot dinners.

Rolodex. Or tape them into a notebook or something.

Agreed; for 90 cards you don't need an app. By the time you did the data entry, you'd have a lot of the information in your head.
Of course, if he's accumulating 90 cards every week/month/trade show, an app might be a good idea.

Yes, one that accepts scans. I think those are still available.
