I had this happen with the first program I ever wrote. It was written in a C&G assembler, hand punched onto a paper tape and run on a computer 50 miles away via a teletype and an acoustic coupler on the telephone. I waited... and waited... and the result came back:
Yay! It worked! First time! From then on I knew that I had to give up my career in Law (my engineer father wanted a white collar job for me) and become... A Lumberjack ...no, no, A Computer Programmer! ...and we all know the rest of the story - well... I do, anyway.
