I've found MicroChips forums not as bad (flaming-wise at least) as some others I've seen.

Some of those guys on that board astound me. They want to make absolutely certain that no human on earth ever asks them to be part of any project or any work that is destined to go somewhere in the market or in technical terms. I cannot understand such behavior.

Actually, this annoyance (and money halting event, of course) is at the instruction level with pins and signals, lower than C or C++.
Hark, assembly language is still a needed skill !
