As reported on the news last week Comet retail group has been forced into Administration.
Heard on the radio this morning that all the branches closed yesterday for a stock take, and today they are opening for a firesale to shift as much stock as possible to raise capital.
Has anybody been down to their stores today? I'm just heading down once the kids get their fingers out and get dressed! I'm looking for 2x40"+ LCD or Plasma tellys, DVD players, and maybe a new stereo, for the kids playroom and top floor tv area, as both the 32" LCDs are ancient and on their last legs being about 7 years old!
Just have to wait and see what is going on, as went on their website this morning to see, and the sites are offline.

Dave,
Wifey and me were at our local retail park about an hour ago. I popped into Comet out of morbid curiosity and to be honest it looked quite normal. It wasn't any busier than usual but perhaps it's still early in the day and the shopper's credit cards haven't woken up yet. There were no signs up or anything. I have to go past it again later today so if there are any feral cat fights inside between customers slashing at each others faces as they try to rip bargain-basement priced items off each other then I'll take it as confirmation Comet are discounting to raise cash.
I'm kind of sad to see them heading to the wall. I never bought much from them but it was a decent store all the same and they had much of everything. Ours is a large store and it was always kept tidy and the staff were quite helpful. I hope some of the stores survive the administration. I'll miss them.

Well,
I'm back and it also looked perfectly normal. Although the place was packed, much much busier than it was normally. No signs or anything. As I was walking round, another customer asked one of the sales guys if there was anything additional off the listed prices and the answer was no.
Oh well it was worth a look...it will maybe still happen yet.

Probably not until the administrators have gouged as much money for themselves got as large a return for the creditors as possible.
Don't forget it was a cheap company - it only cost £2 a year ago!

£2. What a bargain!
Didn't Richard Branson offer to buy the entire Concorde fleet from BA for £1? That's two fantastic offers I missed out on.

I think you might have had a problem out-bidding Branson! (I know I would - and I have nowhere to keep all those planes)

Wow. That's taking the letter-box format a bit to the extreme, isn't it?
