Under-spec'd laptop + hard disc encryption does not a happy developer make... got to the point I was having to restart the thing two or three times every day, each time wasting another twenty minutes...

My computer at work takes about 20 minutes to restart. Partly because it's slow, partly because the startup procedures it goes through. I just bought a high-spec laptop, but haven't started using it as my main work computer yet. Hopefully my company will buy me a better desktop (which could have the same specs as my laptop for a fraction of the price).

Enjoy it. I have a 350 GHz desktop quad core baby since last year and, in the good sense, still not gotten used to it.

You have serious problem about using units of measure.
Or, get rid of that sh*t laptop.

its all relative. The laptop I'm moving from took between 15 and 25 minutes to boot, the new one is far sharper even with an encrypted hard disc The only down side is that it boots faster than I can make coffee :-P
