Made me smile, until I saw the mouse over text.
I wonder how many Americans have any idea what a trebuchet is?
If you get an email telling you that you can catch Swine Flu from tinned pork then just delete it. It's Spam.

A common resolution for the new year is to lose weight. The flyer is formulated in such a way that you could misunderstand it with a club for losing weight instead of a trebuchet club.

Did they call them by name in LOTR? if not I guess the US (and most of the rest of the world) would think catapult (the same way every hand gun is a glock and ever assault rifle is either an AK47 or M16)

In the siege of Gondor the only word uttered regarding the devices is 'catapults', I believe. Even though they are in fact trebuchets, if I understand the difference correctly (i.e. that the secondary 'whip' action on the throwing arm makes it a trebuchet).

I'd guess the majority, it's a weapon after all.

I would think anyone at my school would know, considering we have at least 2 annual trebuchet competitions. My phone on the other hand, apparently has no idea the word even exists...
