Doing a rather fun project with quite some front-end work.
I know, I just mentioned 'JavaScript' and 'fun' which doesn't work well together, but since JavaScript doesn't seem to go anywhere anytime soon I might as well learn to enjoy it

Not really. In some lecture I was tortured with LISP and the whole course was like that. Without the benefit of a debogger debugger, of course. Since then I see functional languages as a passtime for eggheads, but not as practical in any way.

If you aren't already, please learn jQuery. It is wonderful and can make coding in JavaScript truly fun. I love jQuery. It's awesome.

As a replacement or in addition to jQuery, and Old World HTML. It has a very broad scope for a framework, and in fact uses a jQueryLite itself for selection etc. It's two-way data binding is quite a big feature, and the Observer pattern, so one change in the user input in an Angular app can really raise a massive chain of model and DOM updates.
