Some of the oldest portrait-photo's seem similar; old people looking straight at the camera, never smiling. Now you have to force a smile according to the latest meme, or you are signalling to the world that you are hopelessly uninformed.

For many years I was defacto company photographer. Partly because everyone else took such bad photos and partly because I'd become rather facile with Gimp 2.
Taking pictures of people really really sucks. It seems no one's happy with what they look like.
For family shots (fortunately, others have joined in on the duties), I like having a super-zoom (Kodak Z990) - getting full sharp frame portraits from quite a distance away (great for kids eating messy food). No one's the wiser.

Ever been asked to do this? I seem to be encountering this more and more -- the last company I worked for, I left because that was stated explicitly by the CTO as the new policy.
What would you do if you were told to do that? And by dumbing down, I mean doing things like avoiding LINQ (except for basic things), metadata, reflection, extension methods, and any of the C# 7.0 language features.
It seems that long gone are the days when companies actually invest in keeping developer skills up to par with the technologies the company uses. Or even more amusingly (not) keeping those technologies up to date.
