I haven't written a nice tutorial about it yet....
But in my WinRT C++/CX DirectX binding (for C#) I took a pause from D3D and implemented lots of D2D and posted it on CodePlex.

It implements the following interfaces from D2D now: geometries, brushes, image, transform, text format, text layout

A "How to start" will be coming soon, but one can already look at the Sample2_D2D to get an idea!
