But, I think it will give the guy's son more stuff to do other than his homework.

Its got an ARM 11 Linux SOC running it, and even if the OTG driver is a piece of sh*t, its a powerful piece of kit. I think the ARM 11 rates about as fast as a quick 486, and that's no slouch of a processor for this kind of role.
