I had to vote this post up ! How refreshing to read something here that could actually be the basis for a discussion with  content.
But, personally, I remain dumbstruck in the face of RT: ain't touched the critter, and can't forsee that happening in the future.

It's much simpler. They will keep it alive when Windows 9 comes and see to it that things get quiet around it. With Windows 10 they will have a new grand 'vision' and abandon everything that does not fit into the picture, RT included.
And that's the reason why I don't care about any of this stuff anymore. Why not make things even shorter and not even use their junk befor they abandon it?

I hold an A-7 computer expert classification, Commodore. I'm well acquainted with Dr. Daystrom's theories and discoveries. The basic design of all our ship's computers are JavaScript.

Some of the costs aren't just gradient values, some are very binary, the second cost line is a straight up show stopper for business applications. Fisher Price UIs may have a place but it is not the LOB application arena.
As for minimalistic UI, I'm disgusted with the change from Silverlight to MVC imagine if I had to cut off yet another limb!
So from the guy who spent the last 5 years building apps in YADMP (Yet Another Dead Microsoft Product), go for it, spend months getting your head around another paradigm, build your tolls to help your development, invest your time, effort and money into this WinRT environment.
BUT be prepared to throw the f***ing lot away AGAIN. I am so pissed with Microsoft if they did not have such a strangle hold on the LOB environment I would seriously consider a change.

We had recovered from the first wave of the interactive web (all Flash(tm) and no content) but it has come back to haunt us in a javascript / HTML5 fuelled way. Both Auntie Bee and Bloomberg have taken to having messages leap into view when you are in the midst of reading an article. Why why why?

Maybe it's my sh!tty work computer(XP, no less, and all the tank armour Business Systems can provide!), but some of the code projects links take minutes to load - dead page, dead browser, except for the little banners telling me which bit is loading.
What kind of idiot puts so much sh!t in his page that everybody who might have been interested force-closes his browser just to avoid being crucified over his morning coffee?

Probably because some web designer wanted to earn some more money from a banner ad company, so they talked its marketing department into a cool new way they could get guaranteed viewership of their ads. Nobody anywhere once considered whether customers actually wanted such behavior. Heck, nobody anywhere probably ever stopped and thought through how the feature would work for customers.

What attempts to be a singing voice, attached to that over-made-up goth-tart sounds like a bio-engineering experiment cloning the vocal-cord genes of Enya mixed with Olivia Newton-John that went terribly wrong
So many fine contemporary female singers have incredible voices; check out Kimbra: [^]. And then, there's the exquisite chanteuse Lana Del Rey, who can make even the ghost-of-testosterone-past in this aging meat-package clink his chains: [^].
