Five years and 9 months, is all - 12 sexual assaults, child abuse, and fronting a child abuse charity and that's all he gets... not enough, not enough at all.

There might not be much difference, beyond the date offenses were committed, but it does cover a very, very wide range of behaviour and I do not know what the exact circumstances were.
The media tend not to report on the actual detail of these cases, the Max Clifford one was eventually reported by a few websites and what he was up to (with women of age IIRC) was utterly, utterly deplorable, although if you read the mainstream media you would assume it was just a bit of good old fashioned light hearted groping.

Thanks, still not too much detail of the accusations though.
The daughter's friend seems to be the crux of the matter, she initiated the investigation and most of the offenses were committed against her and were predatory. The others (form what I can tell) seem to be opportunistic and transitory, he just grabbed girls cos he got a cheap thrill out of it.
It will be interesting to see how many more come forward now, there were plenty more he couldn't be tried for as they were out of British jurisdiction, but there were allowed a say in court to establish behavior and pattern.

It's standard for all prisoners serving over 4 years (I think), you have to apply for release at the half way stage, you have to have been well behaved in prison, and you have to have admitted and shown remorse for the crimes. If release at half way he will remain under license an supervision until three quarters of the sentence have been served.
I assume he has British citizenship, if he was still Australian then the rules would be slightly different.

I'm not happy with this one. Saville, Jacko, and Gifford were/are all creepy ****ers with predatory eyes and behaviour. Harris has none of that.
If the evidence I've seen against him were based on greater than:
a) Word-of-mouth from a not-recovering alcoholic
b) Testimony that he committed one of the acts in a place thousands of miles from where he was physically*
I would be as behind it as I was for the three monsters listed above, but it looks like Harris is the victim of criminal behaviour, here.
* I lived in Leigh Park (Ramsdale Avenue, to be precise; my dad was stationed in Portsmouth). If Harris had been at the community centre, us kids would have known about it (insert obvious joke here). It's bullsh1t; they've dun him up.

Very good read. I finished it last week and I found it most enjoyable. I would like to see the Moist/Spike relationship explored a bit more though as she's still very one dimensional; a rare omission by Pterry.
