I have just started a contract and have to work with a remote computer as my development environment. Was wondering if there was a good option to the Microsoft Remote Desktop. The Microsoft software does provide multi-monitor support but it appears it is all or nothing. Is there something better?
Update: I am not looking to replace the software on the remote computer, so needs to support RDP. I just want a client solution that works with RDP on the server. Therefore products like TeamViewer are useless.

1. Chrome Remote Desktop - A google product. I would say Good.
2. Splashtop - http://www.splashtop.com/[^] I haven't use this.
As per my experience, Microsoft remote desktop is the best.

Teamviewer rules.
Vpn,file transfers, remote desktop, chat, voip, multiple attendants...
It's free for home use.
It works through firewalls.
You can keep a list of your clients.
You pay once, clients are free.
Really useful!

As far as a client goes I use mRemoteNG. I have lots of RDP sessions open in different tabs. Here[^] is a link.

I work for a company in Hobart nowadays. I quit my Dallas job, for a number of reasons, but the main one was that my internet from home was getting worse and worse and became untenable. Other issues at work made me not want to commit to getting an office, so I left. So, here is my latest message to Telstra:
I have two wireless accounts with Telstra. They were both on wireless modems, but about 14 months ago, when I was trying to find a way to make things work well enough for me to not lose my job, I was pushed to go to a USB modem, and a new plan. I lost that job due to lack of internet connectivity to my home, nine months ago.
The internet in my area has been getting worse and worse because you guys first denied there was a problem, then finally said you have no plans to fix it. So, I am used to issues, but it's been getting worse and worse. Last night and this morning I could not connect at all ( the modem connects, but there is no data ). I know your technical support knows less about the internet than my son, please don't ask me to call them.
So, this morning I tried for over an hour, and then I tried the wireless modem, and it worked. So, I am sure that, as well as our network issues, my USB modem is broken. It is still under plan until April, I am told. I have been told that I need to pay $120 to buy out my plan AND sign up to a NEW plan to get a modem that works. So, you guys pushed me in to a new plan I didn't want, for a modem that didn't work, and as it's now completely broken, I need to pay my way OUT of the plan I didn't want AND start a new plan. That's what the guy in the store told me. Are you guys for real ?

I am not sure if Telstra allow me to bring my own device. They seem to suggest otherwise.

Oh, yeah, I didn't read your rant fully..
At home I just have a "normal" "naked ADSL2" plan, connected the router to my phone line and connected my Ethernet over power to the router (with a short network cable) and to the power socket.

My niece, whom I have rediscovered after a number of years, works in customer service for wait for it ... Telstra. She is national manager of retail customer satisfaction or some such crap. Basically looks after the retail outlets.
If you want to put together a short, non vitriolic email I will forward it to her private email and explain you may be a challenge for her!

If you do forward it on, you should include a reference to Sisyphus[^] while you are at it. Not that I doubt that there is a solution to the problem, but she has to understand the enormity of the CG effect, and prepare herself accordingly.

Joys of USB modem mishap. You were asked to delete temporary files, isn't it? At least that is what they ask me to do. Opening run dialog and typing in temp sounds like hacking in movies with them on phone. I tell them I know some commands and they just need to tell me which screen they want me to open. Never works.
In my case, paying money for a new plan works.
I checked with a friend who worked at customer care during his university days. He told there is a pre-defined script to follow and there are points for duration your call is on. Some thing to do with performance reviews. He now realizes how idiotic he would have sounded to someone who knew computers.
