There is a classification of a multi-talented person called a Polymath. This is a person who has mastered a number of specialized fields of knowledge. I'm wondering if there is a specific definition of that term. Does anyone here know that answer?

In my experience, the term is used for very highly talented folks (e.g. Von Neumann) so the bar is high, but I never met (neither Roger nor) an exact definition.

My dictionary definition gives it as from the Greek: poly = many, mathes = learned.

A customer of a customer went to use our new software yesterday.
At the end of the day I made a quick fix based on an incident we had during the day.
And this morning, 6:45, I got a call... It didn't work.
And because that didn't work, nothing worked anymore.
So apparently, the flow is: my service gets a message, I send back a direct "basic" message and later (asynchronous) I get a full OK message from the software.
Now the issue was that only the basic message was returned.
I then interpreted that basic message as being the full message from the software, and the software hadn't changed and worked well yesterday.
So my conclusion was that somehow my really small quick fix stripped the full message down to a basic message.
Turned out someone set a setting preventing the software from returning full OK messages altogether 
Nothing better than being called out off bed with a full production stop so you can search for an error that isn't there

As old time C programmer, I disagree. Sure someone can make a mess of C code with wild and crazy macros, structures and nested recursions. But with some discipline (which I inherited from Fortran and PL/I), it can be quite efficient and easy to understand.
Regex, I agree. Quite cryptic. I don't always get it.

The man is 97 years old and still builds cars.
I don't have many famous people I deeply admire, but he is one. He built the set cars for bladerunner and several other movies. That's how you know him.
He said the day he's done learning he'll pull the dirt over him himself. I can so relate to that. He also said loving what you do is the key to life.
I will probably die somewhat younger than he does, on account of my vices, but I will be working until I do. I love what I do.

I totally agree with his committment to learning, as I do that myself. But rather than focusing on the thing I like to do, I diversify. A few years ago, after I retired the first time from the energy industry, I took on a study of gunsmithing at a place called American Gunsmithing Institute and completed the Professional Gunsmith Level 2 program. At the time they had a Master level, too, but it included a bunch of tools that I already have, so I passed. Eight years later they came up with a new level, sans the tools, called the Advanced Master course. It adds a few hundred more hours of training, includes certified Armorer courses for about 85 popular guns, and certification on all Glocks, Model 1911s, AR-style rifles and pistols, as well as expansion packs of 10 - 12 DVDs each, covering about a hundred more firearms than the several hundred I studied the first time around. Good stuff, this always learning something new, and the Internet makes it so much easier to find stuff!
I'm also taking an online class in AutoCAD, and taking classes with ESRI to improve my mapping skills using ArcGIS Pro. I bought a pair of GNSS receivers with accessories last year, one Base and one Roaming on a stick, and it would be a shame to let that investment go to waste for lack of knowledge on using all that GIS data! I once interviewed for a job as a programmer at a casino, and their hiring process included sitting around a room full of applicants and telling everyone there what we have done and know how to do. It took a while, and the guy that was supposed to follow me got up and left saying, "I can't compete with that." Nitwit - he was applying for busboy. In the end I declined the offer they gave me because 1) they still thought Visual C was a great product and 2) a lot of the internal apps were written using VB6. I went to work as a Yamaha parts salesman and ended up getting certified as a Yamaha Five Star Service Tech in all product lines. Never leave me alone with a stack of training videos!

Anyway, that's a trick question, if I say yes you'll say I'm a narcissist. If I say no you wouldn't believe me. Let's just say, I probably don't belong here, but it's still my online home.
What's your point though? Even if I were a narcissist that doesn't mean what I said about CP is wrong.
