I was surprised when I went to Suriname and everyone spoke Dutch! OMG | :OMG:
Same story there with the colonial past. They have their own language, but everyone speaks Dutch too.
A lot of names in New Amsterdam York also remind of the first Dutch settlers. Harlem (Haarlem), Flushing (Vlissingen), Brooklyn (Breukelen), Staten Island (Staten Land)...

Those were the good old days when The Netherlands were a mighty world power not to be messed with! Sigh | :sigh:
