I pronounce it "jay-sawn". Mostly because Jason is my name and it drives me to know end to attempt to say it like my name when it is clearly spelled different. Can also get confusing in conversation as non-techies might think I'm talking about myself in the 3rd person or something.
And I pronounce GIF as "jif" with a soft 'G' and consider anyone that pronounces it with a hard 'G' a hipster that hasn't been around as long in the industry.

My desktop Kaspersky AV runs out in a couple of days, so I've bought a new license - but this time it's 3 devices / 1 year, so I can add the WookieTab (Win 10) and Herself's Samsung Galaxy Tab S (Android) since she's started using it for more than just Jigsaw puzzles. Taken her 2 years, but hey ho - she's not fond of new things.
So I've installed the trial version of IS2017 on the WookieTab ready for when my desktop licence runs out.
And it would like me to register. It would like that a lot. And I will, when I use the new licence.
But the stupid ![Elephant | [mastadon]](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/elephant.gif) who wrote the software doesn't - deliberately - support touch in any way, shape or form. You have to use a mouse to select the "not now ![Sunshine | [little ray of sunshine]](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/sunshine.gif) " button to get this TOP LEVEL form off the damn screen. No, the keyboard doesn't work either. Stupid, stupid, stupid. No other software I've seen on this ignores touch, even the first C# app I wrote way back when I was learning.
1st world problems, I know, I know...

I got mine an iPad mini and then a Samsung so her indoors could connect when travelling. It was NEVER to be used as a reader. 4 years down the track she spends hours reading on the Samsung pad, everything EXCEPT books - still insists on dead tree books .

We actually have a library at home and every single book in there belongs to the wife, I divested myself of books at least 2 moves ago. I remember throwing out a couple of Heinlein books that were so well used they were falling apart, I loved my books but do not miss them now their era has gone.

I had literally worn the type of the pages of some. I think I have electronic copies of nearly all his books and still enjoy them. I still dig one out every now and then, nostalgia probably not a good thing.

I ration myself to re-reading his stuff to every few years. Some are better than others, and there's only one I dislike - Farnham's Freehold. Others of his books (The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, Time Enough For Love) I practically have memorized.

It's possible. Almost any PC is going to be fast enough to write stories, and you don't need fancy formatting. Some authors install software to disable internet use on their computer while they're writing to avoid distractions. An old warhorse with no internet connection and a clicky keyboard may have been perfect. George RR Martin uses an old DOS machine with Wordstar, and Gaiman prefers to do first and second drafts with pen and paper.
I'm sure he had backups- and newer, shinier computers for other things. But those backups are probably gone too.
There's always more Discworld fanfic to read.
