I replaced my GTX 570 (still working though  ) just recently with a GTX 1070 6GB in compact form factor (which allows me to get the SSDs out without dismantling the graphics card first).
It displays my 4K desktop and a second HD desktop just fine while staying silent. The once-in-a-blue-moon 3D game also runs in 4K with the fan becoming clearly audible but not annoying.

With my first job I got to know quite a few jet pilots and they always said something like 'If the engine noise annoys you, just wait how you feel when they go silent." Those guys are definitely in love with their engines and fear the day when they don't get to fly with them anymore.

I always buy the second best card, it is usually the best value. Bought GTX 970 couple of years ago and still can play wow on max settings.

That's my strategy as well--buy the second-best card available at the time you're ready to upgrade.
In my case, my upgrades are in sync with the GTA releases.  I've stopped gaming a long time ago, but I still make an exception every few years when a new installment comes out. I don't have the urge to spend money on upgrades right now, so it's probably a good thing the next GTA is still a few years away.

As others have already noted it's the 10xx series. Which is a bit crowded near the top. The 1070, 1070Ti, and 1080 have starting prices about $50 apart and about $50 worth of premium model up-pricing; which makes the whole situation a bit confusing.
The 1070 (not Ti) only really makes sense at the entry level end of its price range (or if you're power limited, it's a lot lower power than the 1070Ti/1080), a base model 1070 Ti will wipe the floor with it. At the same time the 1070 Ti is only marginally slower than a 1080 (not Ti); and as long as you're willing to touch the overclocking sliders yourself a high end 1070 Ti will overtake a baseline 1080.
The 1080 Ti uses a different GPU die and is much faster than the base 1080. At the same time unless you're playing 4k, 1440p max, or 1080p 240hz, etc you don't need a top end card any more.
If you were able to live with a 570 as long as you have, I'd suggest sticking with a 1050 (or even a 1030) and saving the money unless you're planning on a major gaming display upgrade in the near future.
OTOH if you want a decent, but not budget breaking upgrade, a 1060 will be about 2x as fast in raw power; probably more in practice since the 5xx series has long since ceased to be a driver optimization target.

We moved into our new house last week and I put up a clock at the top of the stairs. It's an old pendulum clock with a pleasant chime on the hour and half hour. It makes my insomnia bearable as I don't need to check the time as I lie there awake awaiting doom of impending ageing.
As with any mechanical clock of it's age, and I have three of them, it needs to be balanced and the pendulum adjusted for god time keeping. So when the clock went up I set the time and and checked the next day to see how it was going. It was five minutes fast so I adjusted the pendulum, reset the time and waited another day. Sure enough the next day it was spot on five minutes fast. So I reset it and adjusted the pendulum. This went on all week until Saturday. We were all out all day and I got home to find the clock was now 20 minutes fast!
All week long, my dear loving wife on seeing that the clock was fast had been putting it back ten minutes or so. So as I made the clock faster she adjusted it more often.
Words were exchanged and I adjusted the clock back, slowing it down this time, and yesterday and today it was fine.
I like clocks.

I know what you mean - I have an old fashioned alarm clock by the bed which I wind up every night. I don't use it to wake me up (it's far too brutal from that) and I can't use it to tell the time (I use my phone for that). But I'd miss the regular tick ... tock ... tick ... tock ... if it wasn't there. Strange, but true.

Aren't those benedictory sunset years for an alarm clock - it gets wound up regularly and doesn't have to do anything but its tick-tock, no alarm, not even having to show the exact time
