When I read your title I was asking myself who you are kidding.  The title in your link is a little better - or should I say, 'far' better?

Here in the States, we have the "chip" on the card too, and a lot of times it does not work. However, you can't swipe the card until the card reader tells you too. Now that is aaargh! moment.

Here in the UK we also have the chip (or should that be 'crisp'?) on the card. It allows you to buy things up to £30.00 in value just by holding the card near the reader. The time lag is usually very short, so quite a good system.

Get one of these: ICEPLANE Twin Bladed Car Ice Scraper: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike[^] - I've been using one for about two years, and they are excellent. Not only do you not break the card, but they sheer off the ice at a good rate, better than any other scraper I've tried. Only drawback is that you need good gloves or the scrapped off ice will freeze your fingers solid...
