Well ... it fixed it, at the cost of throwing away all my settings (indentation, screen layout ...)
Annoying though, it's probably too late to get started on much now.

Fortunately these can be exported as separate settings. Over the years I've learned just how important those settings can be.
My editor rules get imported on all of my machines, but I keep separate screen layout settings per-computer, as not all of my machines have the same number of monitors/resolution.

I dislike VS2015/17 because they induce seizures with all the crap that flashes on/off the screen as you code. I can't f*ckin stand that crap.

I once sat through a remote coding session with a coworker of mine, who's using a Mac and leaves some Twitter feed thing running all day.
VS is downright whisper quiet, compared to that thing that was constantly trying to get your attention both with visual cues and sounds. I cannot understand how he could work.

I disable CodeLens and refuse to install Resharper. As a result, my VS2017 runs my 80-project solution like a rocket. (I also use an SSD).

I used to have a Mini but my legs looked awful in it so I traded it in for a Jaguar but I had to get rid of it after it ate the cat. After that, I tried a Beetle but George said he hated living in my garage so I bought a Citroen instead - that just left a bitter taste in my mouth. I then got myself a Chevrolet but it used to get through tons of hay and poo all over the place. Maybe I'll have more luck with an Escort ...

I just installed it to run some HCK testing on a driver fir win7, and there is no freaking start button!
Hovering over the right hand side barely works, it is in a VM and the mouse pointer is not accurate for some reason.

Oh don't get pissed off Matt. With every 2012 server we have deployed we load Classic Shell on it. It's free and just like 2008 or win 7 to use. Start, there's computer Management, Control Panel, My Computer, all your familiar friends!

Yea, I dont intend using it any more than I have to, just to run WHCK tests on a driver, then I can it over to the client to bang their heads against.

are you using RDP? or some other software to connect to the VM? Might be that other software that is the issue.
