Yes, this method was popular a few years ago, but it has since been perfected and mostly automated.
The new hype is to pick a framework, any framework, load that into your project, and get all the other components for free!
I'll explain it to you so you can keep up with the times.
Create a new folder, open up a command prompt, and install gulp using npm (npm install gulp).
Here's the resulting node_modules folder:
Size: 5.98 MB
Size on disk: 8.85 MB
Contains: 2823 files, 706 folders
The total amount of packages installed is 267 
And you were thinking of downloading 267 packages manually? Amateur!

You're doing it (very) wrong. You take all the components you can find, glue them into a project (literally - Ctrl-V) then you implement and bill the customer. Next, you use the cash for a long vacation.
Next, the customer requires a minor modification. You're away, so they have to find a "proper" developer instead. They load it up, find it crashes the browser if left open but untouched for more than 90 seconds (yes, there's a memory leaking loop that runs at page load - but hey, anyone stays on a page more than 90 seconds must have died, right?). The new dev then has to rip everything out and start again. Since the customer only requested a minor mod the new dev will get paid an hour's time - regardless of the fact they've worked all week.
Bitter, me? nah...

With the disclaimer that given the scant available documentation, I'm Doing It Wrong(TM)
So I made this nifty little MRU list and made it so MRU files are shown on the taskbar menu when you right click on the app's taskbar entry. This is not as easy as one would think.
At any rate, there's supposed to be an win32 method you can call called "SHAddToRecentDocs" that's supposed to let explorer/winshell know when you've opened a file or saved a file in your app and it should go in the MRU.
Despite my calling this, my taskbar MRU list managed by windows is not the same as the MRU list in my app (which is more complete)
this confounds me.
The Microsoft function does not work as advertised. Who coulda known?

i've hated apple ever since 1986. I learned to program on the ill fated Apple ][gs
It stunted my ability as a developer early on. Luckily i moved away from apple soon enough that i caught up.

it doesn't seem to do this with my Visual studio 2017. In fact, the only things its picking up are coming from shell opens, not from the app opening its own files.
I could hack it by making it run itself again with the new file using ShellExecuteEx but no. Just no.

It seems to depend on the program using the list. In Explorer you can add or remove folders from the list yourself. I can imagine VS to be quite selective aswell.

I wish there was more documentation on it. This shouldn't be difficult. It's just hard to find anything. What I have found is scattered and sort of incomplete.
Given all that, my code works pretty well, but i want it to work *better*. i'm sure you know the feeling. =)
