I once worked on a system written for the UK Prison Service that allowed prisoner relatives to claim assistance towards the costs of prison visits. This usually involved a spouse/partner and at least one child. To begin a claim, the first screen was entitled "Enter the Claimant". You could the choose to "enter a child". One of the system users refused to go anywhere near it as they considered that it was encouraging paedophilia!
We were asked to change the system to read "Enter Child Details"

For as much as you and all of the other people replying to your post (thread?) got picked on growing up and in school, I would think that you would be a little more sensitive to the fact.
Maybe the person wanting the change is more sensitive to the fact than you are.
I have a daughter who is mentally retarded, as are many, many other people around the world. She could do nothing about the way she was born. People are also born with cerebral palsy or deformed limbs, or injured in accidents. ("gimps").
To turn the description of a medical condition into a joke in the lounge is puerile.

agreed, My brother is a Down's person. HE is mentally retarded. My Dad had polio could not walk without some canes. HE was a gimpy person. He never asked for anything and I guarantee he would not have taken any offense to this at all. I just don't understand people.
On a further note. You can make ANYTHING offensive if you want too. Holy Elephanting Sh!# We have made the word Elephant offensive inside this group here.
