Mine unlocks all the doors if you open the drivers door from the inside, remembers to lock doors that are open when you hit the lock button, ignores the lock button if the drivers door is open, and relocks itself if you don't open a door within 30 seconds of hitting the unlock button. Oh, and it locks all the doors when you hit 10 mph to prevent carjacking (but you can apparently turn that off somewhere in the settings, but I haven't waded down that far to find it). Apparently, in an accident all doors unlock automatically and the interior lights all turn on.

That would be difficult: what if it detects that it was a deliberate act and not an accident? 
We know that some German cars can detect test conditions and behave differently as a result ...

My truck will unlock if it can "hear" the key fob within or around the vehicle, just by pressing a button on the door handle.
Failing that, I can fall back to using an app to unlock the truck remotely.

I have conflicting feelings about anything that decides how to behave depending on whether the keyfob is within range of the vehicle or not.
Actual scenario:
My dad got in his car, hit the push-to-start button, drove to Store A and dropped off my mom, and went on to continue on his way to Store B. Before he got out of the parking lot (of Store A), he got a warning the keyfob was no longer in range. Before he could figure out what was going on, he was already in traffic and couldn't just pull over. That's when he realized he didn't have his keys on him.
How did he manage to leave the garage in the first place? Because my mom had the spare key in her purse as she sat right next to him in the car. The car was still running when my dad dropped her off, so it wasn't until he started driving away that he got the warning. He had to turn around and chase my mother down in the store to get her key from her purse.
I can just imagine if she had taken a bus or a subway or whatever, and wouldn't have been able to get back in touch. My dad would've been stuck in a vehicle he couldn't leave (and have to leave the engine running), or else he wouldn't have been able to get it started again.
His newer car seems to have a much shorter range (inches, rather than tens of feet), so he's now getting the warning a lot sooner.

Lucky for me my wife will never have my keys (or the spare) on her. She's afraid of driving my truck.

Well, the other way this problem solved itself is that my mother no longer drives, and thus has no reason to carry the spare key with her.

When the battery ran out on my daughter's key fob, I had to walk her through the process of removing the actual key from the fob to unlock the door, then how to use it to start the car.

I've heard that you should change out the battery in the fob once a year so that's why I've got a reminder on my phone for it.

I have just bought a dirt cheap Windows 10 tablet, specifically to test an app before I port it to Android and possibly to iStuff later (much later).
Having grown out of Fisher Price stuff a little while ago, I would appreciate any suggestions for a classic start menu, but one that is usable on an eight inch tablet. I fear the classic shell I am currently using would be a little too fiddly on a touch screen.
Any suggestions please?
You have plenty of time, as I am now updating Win10.

Just right click the title above each set of tiles, and select "remove from start menu" (or similar, I dumped 'em all immediately Win 10 was installed).
The Fisher Price look will vanish, and you get just the "normal" start menu, and a task bar - the icons on which come in two sizes: "normal" and "small", just right click and select "Taskbar settings" then uncheck "Use small taskbar buttons", that may be enough.

Thanks for all that - as soon as the update is done, I'll give it a shot. I have always just downloaded and installed Classic Shell, and never investigated tweaking the supplied menu.

Ah - OK - thanks for that. I'll check it out as soon as the update is finished. I'm sure it'll work out just fine. Thinking about it, could I still use my left hand, if I stood on the other side of the tablet?

Long press - press and hold - works with most things.
If it doesn't, try long press then tap with a different finger at the same time. That works with some apps as well.
