I had to change my car tires this morning and it could only be done at a specific garage.
So I drive to the garage and, completely unexpected, I drive past the house of an ex... From 16 years ago!
Google Maps would not have send me there, but I used TomTom, who did.
While waiting for my car I start to wonder, how is she and her family?
We didn't break up on bad terms and I've talked to her a few times after.
We even hung out a few times as friends, but that was long ago.
I've lost her number and she doesn't do social media and the last time I talked to her was over 10 years ago.
On my way back I just pulled over and rang the bell and to my surprise she still lived there.
Her father opened the door and I was like "Hey [name], remember me!?  "
To say they were surprised is an understatement 
I've changed A LOT since then so they didn't even recognize me at first.
Kind of the real life equivalent of befriending that high school friend you haven't talked to in years on Facebook.
Of course they let me in, offered me a drink and we had a nice talk (mostly her dad and me) and we exchanged numbers.
I'm not planning on getting back together or anything, but it was nice seeing them again.
Still kind of awkward at first though
Not sure yet if I'll follow up with a WhatsApp message, but at least I'll send them a Christmas card

For some reason that makes me feel good. It makes me happy when old friends reconnect.
A couple of years ago, by pure chance, I found my old best friend from school that I had lost touch with when we each went to different universities. He had emigrated to Australia, started a Project Management consultancy in Sidney and was doing very well, married with two beautiful daughters and a couple of grandchildren on the way.
I wasn't ever planning on going to Australia, too dangerous (snakes, spiders, wombats, koalas, kangaroos), but now I am re-considering, perhaps a side visit when I go to New Zealand eventually.

For me, that would be a great excuse to go there!
A few years back I hooked up with an old friend (we were like really close friends, almost ended up having a relationship).
She wasn't the brightest back then, but her heart was in the good place and I really liked her anyway.
So anyway, first red flag was when I suggested we'd grab dinner somewhere and she didn't have money.
Alright, so how about we meet up at my place and I'll cook us something nice?
Second red flag, she didn't have a car or a driver's license, necessary to reach my house (the bus would take forever, but she didn't have bus money anyway).
Her place wasn't an option either as she still lived with her dad, another red flag.
Alright, I picked her up and brought her home.
She didn't change a bit in ten years time.
She talked about the same issues and the same people like when we were still in high school (at least she finished that, but that was about the only thing that changed, that and about 40 kg extra) 
We still talked a bit on WhatsApp, but that changed when she changed her profile picture to a funny pic of her and I was like "wow, scary face! " and she was all like "WELL I'M NOT HERE FOR YOU TO LOOK AT FOR YOUR PLEASURE SO I POST WHATEVER PIC I LIKE!" and I was like "wow, you have some serious issues".
Not quite the reunion I was hoping for and we never talked again
I still have her on FB though so I know she now has a boyfriend and lives together with him, so I guess she's finally growing up a bit

I'll still give her more credit than that, she's never been a leech and she never wanted to depend on anyone.

reminds me of the opening plot for many many movies.
After meeting the old acquaintance next comes:
"Remember we used to talk about doing X, well I was looking at that again and I can make it work, so lets get together and:
- do that world record never to be beaten bank robbery"
- replace the politicians with androids/fleshbots that we [alone] control"
- assemble a working time travel machine and "
- build the world ending bomb"
- create the perfect toilet seat."
...
OK, the last one is a stretch, and most plots end badly for at least one of the protagonists.
so all I'm saying is: be careful lest you be the one that doesn't make it out.
