When you order your computer online from Dell, like I do, you can configure the machine within tight bounds. For example: For my wife's machine, I could choose between a spinning disk drive or a NVMe S.2 SSD. Make and type of the drive was not stated. They tell you the drive's capacity, but not the make or model. Take it or leave it. I chose the slightly more expensive M.2 drive knowing that I may not get the fastest, more expensive SSD option, but at least the main board was guaranteed to have a S.2 connector and the bios was guaranteed to work with NVMe SSDs. I was disappointed because the SSD Dell supplied was so painfully slow. However, the extra money I spent to replace the slow SSD with a superfast Samsung 970 PRO unit was well spent.

Hmmm,
In my current role I am a tester of all things embedded. One of the widgets that is due for deployment soon (?) has been my main task for some time, in this time I found a fault, it was cured (?) popped some where else, today though I managed to brick the unit. I have 'wakamole' problems the sort you fix and keep coming back. Memories of an RF system where the power was nice and low them peak when you went to measure it... I'm glad I don't have to chase this sucker...

It depends on your employer, but it is "great" for those who sell maintenance contracts, also those great features that say "coming soon" so you need a subscription or contract to eventually be able to have those great features.
It is sadly one reason why many engineers do not make great business people.

Yeah, because your phone has to be an iPhone, it is the only phone that exists. He couldn't, for example, but a brand new £100 basic Android phone because they haven't been invented yet. It is iPhone or nothing so if you don't have much to spend on a phone a cheap second hand iPhone is literally your only option.

Well, what do you expect from a cheap Chinese phone that has ridiculously expensive non-Chinese designers?
For 600-odd quid, you get 120-quid's worth of phone, and the rest goes on the "design".
A bargain at a tenth of the price (but not as much as a ninth).

It's one of those movies that I had to stop watching half way through, and never got around to finishing.

It wasn't easy to finish, nowhere near as good as the original. I think they had too long, too much money, and just lost sight of what made the first actually good.
Ah well, perhaps number three will be back on form ... sequels are generally bollocks.

Well, it was a really simple premise that was easy to work with and create great stories -- they couldn't have that, now, could they? They had to "improve" it.

Turning the phone off and on again temporarily fixed the problem, O2 said. Just turning it off fixes it permanently.

There are reasons other than fanboy to own iPhones. That is the only smartphone that will talk to and control my hearing aids. There are now a few HA's that talk Android, just coming out years after Apple. I have had connection for over 6 years, back 2 levels of phones and 2 levels of HA's. I am now several levels back, iPhone 7. They are free: hand me downs. 
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

My dev machine is down. I'm here on my hubby's craptop
I went to install ubuntu 18.04lts and grub2 refuses to boot my system
I've tried installing using a ton of different configs, i even pulled a drive because it was insisting on writing the boot to sdb instead of sda
It just dies. Cannot find an OS but the setup is successful.  I don't know where my windows DVD is since I've moved, and I'd have to put a dvd drive back in the #$(# thing even if i found it.
I hate linux when it doesn't work. I'm probably doing something wrong but I have no idea what. This system has taken this same version of ubuntu before (albeit on an older hard drive, but both SATA hdds under 3TB)
I'm so over a barrel right now. FML
Fixed with some cmd line magic and manually installing grub and a grub_bios partition
Now I need to get wifi drivers but my network cables are heaven knows where.
When I was growin' up, I was the smartest kid I knew. Maybe that was just because I didn't know that many kids. All I know is now I feel the opposite.

i'll try it if MINT doesn't work. I've had good luck getting MINT to run on machines where ubuntu won't install. Installing ubuntu afterward seems to work
