IMAO, we should kill off JavaScript. It is used for some of our most critical needs, but is totally non-typesafe, and extremely easy to write erroneous code that will still run.
Surely someone, somewhere, has developed an interpreted language with better safety and correctness guarantees!

Just had a Windows update which I installed straight away as the PC was dog slow and I've noticed this before when updates are ready to be installed.
So, is Windows doing some prep work in the background, before I've agreed to the update or is it maybe the AV scanning everything that has been downloaded?
I know, I should have investigated there and then, but had emails I wanted to reply to ...

I've noticed that with mine as well - I assume it's a combination of large download files, prep work, and poor code in the updater spending too much time checking the download status / validity.
