The customer changed something in their SAP system a while ago and low and behold something in our code base that communicates with said SAP system stopped working. There are 5 logfiles none of which contain any useful information. I'm the poor sod who now has figure out what exactly broke, why this crap no longer works and fix it, say, until yesterday.
The problem is the culprit that manufactured this pile of manure is no longer with us and can thus not be properly punished.
Dare I mention the absence of documentation?

On the lighter side: tomorrow is the last day before a week and a half of vacation.
I shall now return to cursing at this code mess and whining and moaning about it.

Never forget the last out first blamed principal. Blame him and go on vacation.
With any luck someone will have figured out and fixed the problem before you return.

Same here - I have to replace a load of spaghetti built around hard coded server references - I am struggling to make head or tail of it.
The idiot who write it originally is still with us and is no help at all trying to figure out what it is meant to be doing and why. His excuse is he had to write several applications to support the sales/production roles for a startup all in double quick time and this particular nest of spaghetti is the result of requirements changing every day or so as management kept changing their minds. Most of the rest of this code base is pretty good as it has been re-engineered over time when things became more leisurely but the original dev says he didn't want to touch this particular mess as it worked but was indecipherable. But now it needs changing and it has fallen to me to fix it  By the way, the original dev is me too

I have been wrestling with the article submission wizard for some days in an attempt to post my debut article.
Mostly its going OK albeit slowly but I am having real difficulty with code snippets. I just want to copy some C# code from VS2010 and paste it into the article. I want to keep the formatting (indentation). I cannot seem to work this out.
It seems I need to copy the code - paste it as text - manually do all the formatting and then surround it with the language formatting tags using the wizard.
I have searched the site to no avail so could somebody either point me to the appropriate link or give me a few tips on how to do this.

Switch to HTML view and insert the pre tags manually and then insert the copied code.
Edit:
When you have done all that you can now switch out of HTML mode.

Copy in the code. Select the new block then press the 'clean formatting' button (looks like a flag). Select 'formatted' from the format drop-down. Select the language from the language drop-down...

Thanks. In the current wizard the flag icon is Anchor. The way you suggest is how I would have thought it should work but for some reason not for me. I have it solved now using the HTML view.

Yes I have actually used that method. There may be a bug. As I have a way forward I will look into this later.

Well, I had problems before with this function. It seem to divide the code blocks with white lines inside the coherent code block. This made me sware quite often so I did the HTML variant.

It seem the editor has personal feelings... I just did again to check - copy/paste from VS, select the text, hit Tx to clean VS formatting, select language. Done... HTML text editors are funny things...

I use Visual Studio to create the content as a HTML page, and then copy paste it into the wizard. Fast and easy, and I don't have problems with CP's interpretation of what my markup means.

Take a look at this picture[^]. There really can't be any doubt that he is giving the referee the finger, or rather fingers as two makes it plural. But I realize now that I'm not a professional football player, and theres a perfectly reasonable explanation.
"The Portuguese football federation (FPF) reiterates that there was no gesture directed to the match referee and regrets the speculation which would seriously damage the interests of the player and the national team," they said a statement.
"The FPF clarifies that the gesture, which has been misinterpreted, was directed at team mate Bruno Alves and merely indicated instructions from coach Paulo Bento. Raul Meireles was just explaining that he would drop back to the position of central defender, playing on the right of the defence."
So, I guess the coach has some foul language when he explains his tactics; although that is not unusual in football
