More important is a whole comfort while you use SW. Say, SaaS requires a good Internet. Good means GOOD, not a dial-up modem! Second, SaaS itself is a program, but running on somebody's hardware - needless to say that it won't be the best and robust HW at all. It's a second "weak link". Third, money is money: today you buy jwrly ring for 10 grands and tomorrow you cannot afford even hot-dog! So having SW in hands "feels" way better than "oh, I can pay $1 and use Office one more hour!". BTW products like "editors" never used on "hour" basis! A lot of time when you sit in Word spent on "thinking". I bet my ear that 100% people will feel "not so well" when their money gone away just because you sit in front of "remote Word" and type nothing.
So... I think even those 7% who vote for SaaS lie to themselves - nobody wanna be hooked and milked like a cow.

but for persons not having good hardware but a good internet speed this service means a lot for them

good h/w doesnot corresponds to a $300 pc its deserves some more... internet is basic need lets you are accessing it from i-phone then its better to use saas services

I just say that having _good_ Internet is ridiculous to say about "weak HW". $220 and you'll have PC enough for nearest 5 years AT LEAST.

This is a hot button issue with me.
I was around before the PC when a computer was a DEC VT-100 and a VAX cluster somewhere.
Now everyone wants the power (C: drive) back. - And they want you to pony up monthly and or yearly
to keep using what should be and was always YOURS and your data too.

The gaming industry is discovering free-to-play. There's also lots of great free software out there that I use both in private and at work.
Who knows, maybe the next Visual Studio, SQL Server and Office Professional Editions are free-to-play too... 
Of course there are always the Express Editions.

But it's usually a price I'm willing to pay.
Of course I'm always willing to pay for a good product.
Unfortunately there aren't so many good products around nowadays (not that I'm interested in anyway).
When I buy it's usually music cd's or film dvd's. They're quite expensive, but I can't resist...
