Well, it's worth only if you make it eye-symmetric..

You mean to say that you're an expert on something other than eating chocolate???

I'm an expert in many things other than eating chocolate but, to be fair, none of them involve meetings with white boards!

In the thread about C, Walter Bright's name popped out. Strangely enough, I didn't immediatly thought "o yes D", but "Empire, the war game of the Century."
Anyone remember that? I was hooked on it and spent/wasted many hours playing it.

I need a holiday, all this endless work and stress, so I'm going to try and prise myself from my desk for a week and take the family away somewhere.
That I expect would be a good week but when it's over how long will I remain recharged? Usually a holiday seems like a distant memory after about 1.5 days back at work. There's a bit of me that thinks its just an expensive, frivolous thing to do.
What's your experience? Do holidays have any long-term benefit?
Regards,
Rob Philpott.

Two weeks on a Caribbean beach, drowning in rum and having the mind off the hook is paradise.
You return refreshed and fully charged and ready for a full day's work.
After that full day though, you feel like you need a holiday.

If work gets you down that much then maybe you need to work somewhere else, or less.
A holiday's a nice change and a chance to totally relax for a few days and experience somewhere new, but expecting 1 week to have more of an effect on your happiness than the next 25 is just not realistic. Down time is nice but you need your up time to be good to you as well.

A holiday is good to just give you brain a rest, th body a relief from stress and keeps you from going postal.

I agree with you there.
I've been to San Diego, Oceanside and many of the beaches in CA many years ago and they weren't that bad but I wouldn't go now, I hate big crowds.
