In order to be guilty; both Actus reas and mens rea have to be satisfied. Mens rea is a mind set. Technically there are a few situations that don't require the act to happen, such as in attempted murder or conspiracy to commit murder, which I am not accusing you of.

Actually the criminal act in these cases are the attempt to commit murder and the conspiracy to commit murder respectively so the "act" (which is not the murder itself) still has to happen. What you are mixing up is what is the actual "act" under prosecution.Quote: which I am not accusing you of

Conspiracy to commit a theft is not a crime, it's a preparation of the crime before the act of importance, in English it is an action someone can do, but it is not an act that can make someone guilty without the acts leading to murder.
Attempted murder is a bad I see now, because an attempted robbery is still a robbery, the second crime that fits in the category is terrorism sorry.

It is not therefore necessary for any action to be taken in furtherance of the criminal purpose in order for a conspiracy offence to have been committed. This distinguishes a conspiracy from an attempt (which necessarily does involve a person doing an act) see Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
I am not sure about the US as my Law degree is from the UK and Mercans are, legally, a bit weird sometimes.

I took criminal psychology so I briefly skimmed over all the laws.

I'm Canadian, that grew up in parts of the country where the native tongue is Acadian - which is almost English mixed with French.
In order for me to get through university I had to have someone edit all my papers. Other then that my understanding of every topic allows me to take exams without studying.

Case 1) A Dog-Fighting ring took a female Pitbull out to a field (near a kennel) and started shooting her. The Kennel videotaped the incident and rescued the dog (who is actually quite friendly towards pretty much anyone, even cats/other dogs), and quickly got the ring (about 30 people) taken down.
Case 2) My mom's friend just found an injured kitten, and it seems that someone took a machete to it. I believe the police have been notified, and my mom is meeting her friend at a vet to try and save the kitten.
EDIT: Kitten was too badly injured to be saved. 
I just want to [REDACTED] these.... demons from hell!

My wife and I do rescue/rehab work and I was a director of a humane society for a few years. some of the stories just make your blood run cold.
Our last rescue (who we're keeping) was a Black Lab pup who had parvovirus. The owners didn't want the expense/trouble of having her cured. Not so much mistreatment as cold-hearted.
The one before that (a Gordon Setter cross) had been shot in the head with a large airgun pellet. The vet we work with had been called to a pound to put her down, but she operated and removed the pellet. She's fully recovered!
The one before that was a young yellow Lab that had been kicked so hard by its owner so hard that the femur snapped at the ball. Our vet removed the ball and we rehabbed him, the femur forming a pseudo-joint allowing him full mobility.
We have seen much, much worse! I sometimes despair for our race.
