It is the most common error when clean-install...The standard Microsoft support answer is wait 24-48 hours...(for what?)...
If you have room for an other partition, you can solve it by wasting a lot of time...
1. Install W7 on a different partition
2. Run W10 installer from that W7 instance
3. After upgrade and activation, switch OS to the clean-install (It works as the activation bounded to your computer, by some hardware caractereistics and not to a specific install of the OS)
4. Remove partition

Do you mean try activating by entering my Windows 7 Professional key again in 24 to 48 hours?
slmgr.vbs /ipk <insert key="" here=""> is not working either.

Microsoft support person states, that there is a bug around the issue (on registration servers) and it will be fixed within 24048 hours...However this is an answer people got over 4 months as an answer to this error code...
I know no-one waited 24-48 hours...You may be the first...

I'll assume your 70+ year old eyes missed the bit where Activating Windows by entering my Windows 7 Professional key in Settings was getting the Software Licensing Server to reject my key as invalid.
The part about not being sure if Microsoft was open was about calling and Activating over the phone.

The Microsoft computer will ask you some questions. When you try to activate the setup, your machine should give you a link to click for telephone activation. If you click it, it will give you a very long number to give to the activation computer. If it works (no guarantees) the computer will give you a very long alternative activation number to enter on your machine (about 48 digits). Just try it and see if it works.
My old eyes did not miss anything, mate!

Screw that, like I won't have issues typing it into a phone with no problems.

Absolutely agree with petition creator in terms of real outlaw of IT poop! But MY LIST is different:
