Why do they ask us to tick a box, or type in a couple of words - both jobs that a computer can do pretty easily?
To prove we aren't robots, what we should have to do is harm a human being, or through inaction allow a human being to come to harm.

The simple tick a box one is because they are apparently tracking the mouse motion prior to the tick, 'robots' can't do human mouse movement very well and tend to go straight.
Although, this one does it quite well, if a bit slow and noisily!

Huh. Makes me wonder if my mouse movements are too precise compared to the cluster elephant that precise and accurate control on a fondlepad is, or if their scripts are confused by my multi-screen setup. I don't think I've ever gotten that one without being given an image analysis task (eg find the storefronts or street signs) that I assume is being used to generate training data for their machine learning program.

No, the new ones are great in that regard - for the first time in years I can read the date window on my watch!
The only problems are driving, because the "normal vision" sweet spot is pretty high and small, but I'm adapting pretty well; and a lack of peripheral vision that I didn't realize I used a lot.

Technically we are doing that by logging into xyz system rather than scouring the streets looking for people to save from being hit by a car (or whatever disaster you prefer to insert).

The answer to that is yes I would think. I'm not lucky enough to have a job on the Top Gear production team so this is only a useless guess
